Where to do sports in Cusco!

Swimming

You love to swim and also want to stick to your practice on your vacation?

It depends what you are looking for, if you look for low budget ones then the public swimming pools are for you. Due to the weather in Cusco they are all inside pools.  There is one in Wanchaq, close to the train station on the street Av. Pachacuteq No. 500. But you have to be aware of the opening hours, as an adult you pay 5 Soles per hour.

Check the opening hours here: https://www.facebook.com/PiscinaWanchaq/photos/a.1822155168099781/1971358733179423/?type=3&theater

There is another one at the sports center IPD, the swimming pool is next to the Coliseo Cerrado – Casa de la juventud. Some school classes take swimming classes there, but the general opening hours are from 7 am to 10 pm.

Of course there is always the option to stay at a hotel with a swimming pool, but if that is not in your budget you can always go to hotels that have public opening hours for their swimming pools.

There are:

  • The Royal Inka Hotel in Pisac, many people love going there for a day trip to enjoy the sport facility there.
  • Luxurious hotels like the JW Marriott and the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas also have swimming pools

Gym

There are a lot of gym´s in Cusco and most even have offers for a day, week or for a half of a month. Just ask for it, even if they don´t advertise those kind of offers they are usually willing to negotiate.

A lot of gym´s are quite small and old-school, just offering weights and machines. Certainly there are gym´s though that do offer a rather wide variety of courses.

For example the Matrix Gym at Av. El Sol 106 offers different kind of aerobics courses.

Another big one is the gym Smart Fit, which is located right in the mall.  They also have many courses including spinning classes, as tourist it might not be possible to sign up for a local plan but there are usually always other options.

Or how about Cross Fit? Check out the Gym at Calle José Gabriel Cosio 312 Urb. Magisterio 1ra etapa.

Yoga

As Cusco seems to draw in quite a spiritual crowd there are actually a few places to take yoga classes.

à Evergreen Cusco is located in the little street connecting Tullumayo and Calle San Augustín, at Pampa de la Alianza 474. It is a yoga studio with a regular group schedule, private classes, a meditation space, a yoga store and also offers reiki and massages and other treatments.

  • Healing House is in the well-known neighborhood San Blas in the street 555 Qanchipata. It is open 7 am till 9 pm. It is a community, where you can rent a room, get treatments like reiki, sound therapy, card reading and much more. They have a weekly yoga and meditation schedule.

à Yoga Wasi is a yoga studio that is a little outside the center at Jirón Panamá E-13 in the neighborhood Quispicanchis. They usually have classes at 9 am and at 6 pm. More local people go to this yoga studio but the teacher also speak English.

  • Yoga Studio Paramata Healing is also located in San Blas at Asnoqch’utun 279. They also offer different kind of treatments like massages, reiki, craniosacral therapy chakra balancing and more. You have to sign up for their yoga classes, so make sure to not just drop in.

Football

Football or to be clear soccer is very popular in Peru if you haven´t noticed by now – there are many places to which you can take a group of people to play football! Each neighborhood has usually a small park with street soccer places, which you either just can use or pay a few Soles to be able to play.

If you want to rent a soccer field, there are quite a few artificial soccer fields. You need to call them and rent the field for a certain day and hour. The cost varies from field to field and is also different if you want to use it during the day or night time. Prices start at 25 Soles per hour up to about 50 Soles per hour. Ask at your hotel or hostel to call and negotiate if you don´t have a conversational Spanish level. It is also good to ask at your hostel /hotel which one they recommend as they are not all the same and that way you find out which one is the most convenient for you.
